Jacky Sutherland

B.Sc Physiotherapy (Wits)

Jacky Sutherland is a physiotherapist from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape Province. She prides herself on providing thorough evaluations and holistic treatments. Her practice is an outpatient-based practice treating various injuries and medical conditions. Her focus is on rehabilitating existing injuries/conditions and preventing further injuries. Her practice drives the patient’s well-being, not only for the short- term or immediate gratification but for the long term.

After qualifying as a physiotherapist, she returned to her home town, Gqeberha, where she completed her year of community service for The Hospital Complex, i.e., Livingstone Hospital, Dora Nginza Hospital and The Provincial Hospital.

Jacky worked 12 years for a private practice based at Netcare Greenacres Hospital. In October 2023, she had the privilege of opening her private practice, based at The IOD and Medical Centre. Here, she treats and rehabilitates a wide variety of injuries on duty. However, she also treats private and medical aid patients.

Her goal has always been to have her practice where she can provide the care for patients that they deserve and where a person can feel safe, comfortable, understood, and, most of all, cared for.

She has gained years of experience in various fields of physiotherapy ranging from ICU, orthopaedics, pre- and post-surgical conditions, medical conditions, neurology, paediatrics, burns, etc. Throughout the years she has taken numerous courses to enrich her knowledge and keep up to date with new treatment modalities.

Jacky decided to become a physiotherapist because she wanted to play a vital role in improving a person’s quality of life. She thoroughly enjoys all aspects of physiotherapy but is most passionate about the patient and how she can help them. Jacky also enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary team to provide holistic treatment in patient management. A specific field of interest she enjoys for out-of-hospital physiotherapy would be injuries on duty. Particular fields of injury for in-hospital physiotherapy would be ICU and neurological conditions.
